EP udpate: Days 5 & 6 at Toyland.

Shots of whiskey, even more synths, gang vocals and the fart game.

Hey guys,

We were back into the studio at Toyland for our third and fourth tracking sessions with Adam on the 29th and 30th of August.

Day 5

As may have noticed just recording or tracking as the professionals call it, is a rather lengthy process and is not to be taken lightly. After all, if your tracking isn't of at least a good standard then it becomes like trying to polish a turd. You might as well start again because it'll sound like shit anyway. But enough of that jibber jabber... On with the blog entry.

With the aforementioned in mind tracking was coming along swimmingly and we were all very chuffed with ourselves. Then Mick started singing. Now don't get me wrong, he was singing well but something was just a little different and no one could really put their fingers on what was wrong with his takes. He was hitting all the notes, his harmonies were working well and he as perfectly in time. It was making us feel like doing a narny but we pressed on anyway like four band members glued together to form a big electro rock juggernaut. We did more synths because we had to anyway.

Then all hell broke loose. Lee laid down the gauntlet in front of Marin. It was a challenge he could not refuse for a if man shirks in any way shape of form the responsibility to participate in the fart game he can no longer call himself a man. Immature or not. They got kicked out of the control as the contest reached fever pitch resulting in an anti-climax and a smelly studio. Beer was also involved. The day went with more touch ups being made and minor alterations to some song arrangements.

Day 6

Day 6 of tracking marked the return of an in-form velvetty voiced Michael Vafiadis. He strolled into the recording both with a swagger that can only be attributed to constantly being called "Sheriff" coupled with 4 or 5 shots of whisky for breakfast. He laid down all his re-takes with the precision of a German precision specialist. Everyone was impressed.

After all the vocals we done, some for the second time, we went back into touch ups. This included a new and unexpected extra track that will now feature on the In Colour EP, some additional cymbal hits and some rabble rousing gang vocals that would put a quiver within the beard of Zeus himself.

However, as good a progress as we were all making we still didn't get enough time to rehearse with and organise recording with the three piece horns section for one of the new numbers to appear on In Colour. But fear not for we will continue to spank the bottom of sonic boundaries. Horns will be had! we just need to spend more time tracking which is currently being organised.

But more on that later.... stay tuned as the recording process continues.

Cultural learnings from day 5 & 6:

  • Sheriff's voice consists of whisky and velvet.
  • There will be a horns section to one of the track.
  • We really have to stop farting in the Toyland control room.
